BREAKING - Sputnik V vaccine will start production in India from August
Russian covid antidote Sputnik V is set to start production in India in August. DB Venkatesh, India's ambassador to Russia, said on Saturday that 3 million doses of Sputnik V would be delivered to India by the end of May. Russia has said it will hand it over to India.
And 5 million doses are planned for June. As soon as the production of Sputnik V starts in India, the initial target is to produce 75 million doses of the vaccine, said Venkatesh.
Russia will jointly develop the vaccine with Dr Reddy's in Hyderabad. The vaccine is already being used in India. Russia has handed over more than 200,000 doses to India. They have provided 1.5 lakh doses in the first phase and 60,000 doses in the second phase. Although the vaccine has been cleared for import from Russia, Sputnik V is still not readily available in India. The vaccine manufacturer says the maximum price for a single dose of imported vaccine is Rs 995, including GST.
