Milkha Singh's funeral will be held in Chandigarh at 5 pm on Saturday
Milkha Singh's funeral will be held on Saturday. His last rites were to be performed at 5 pm. He passed away on Friday night. The legendary athlete was 91 years old.
He died at PGIMER Hospital in Mohali. Milkha's body has been handed over to his family from the hospital. The bodies of the Olympian runners are kept in the house No. 625, Sector 6, Chandigarh. His son, international golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Milkha's last rites will be performed at Sector 25 crematorium at 5 pm, family sources said.
PM Narendra Modi expressed his condolence to the family of Milkha Singh, and remembered Milkha Singh for his contribution to India. He added, "In the passing away of Shri Milkha Singh Ji, we have lost a colossal sportsperson, who captured the nation’s imagination and had a special place in the hearts of countless Indians"

He was attacked by covid on May 20. Four days later, on May 24, he was admitted to Mohali Hospital. He was released from the hospital on May 30. But on June 3, Milkha had to be re-admitted to PGIMER's Nehru Hospital due to low oxygen levels. The result of his covid test came negative on Thursday. He was transferred from Covid ICU to General ICU. But in the end he died after failing all the attempts of the doctors.
